About the book
The scholarship board lists twelve places; Nora’s letter says thirteen. Gallery work offers a promising beginning for a girl who likes repairing things. At registration, however, a receipt says she collected her access token before arriving at the school. The signature is not hers. A corrected copy can wait, she is told. Nora keeps the paper.
That day, a mechanical instrument disappears. The winding key she returned turns up in her bag; the access log identifies her token. When Adrian denies having been beside her, Nora starts comparing records and times. Imani stays, but will not pretend to have witnessed what she missed.
In this original, full-colour school mystery, Nora must seek the truth without letting anger wrongfully accuse someone else. She wants to remain at Bracken Hall, while refusing to confuse gratitude for a place with accepting every story written in her name.
